My Thoughts: All the President's Men

Through out this film, viewers witnessed Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward try to crack the Watergate scandal. Heading toward the 1972 election, this scandal was played out to be a minor break-in at first. They had no idea what was coming when they found that there were already top lawyers on the case for defending the robbers. This was the first red flag for Woodward, he is then accompanied by fellow colleague Carl Bernstein to run with the story. They then found that not only was the burglary part of the Republican party, but it went through to the White House resulting in "national security problems" with the Post. With Bernstein and Woodward being put under a microscope with their investigation on the U.S government, they had to even type on a typewriter for their conversations to avoid them being listened to if they were some how bugged by the government. Nixon knew they were on to him and so did everyone else involved. They tried to cover their tracks, but the more the tried, the more they failed. Though a lot of Americans thought this was a small issue, they had no idea that the future of their nation was in jeopardy. The Washington Post brought the scandal to light for Americans everywhere and took on a story that was against the White House but for the American people. Even though half of America knew there was some sort of drama going on in the White House involving a break in, Nixon still won a second term. While Nixon is being sworn in for his second term as President, Bernstein and Woodward work to get their story done to share with the world. Nixon was sworn in January 20, 1973. But, with all of the evidence against Nixon, he had no choice but to resign as President, August 9, 1974. This left him with the legacy of the Watergate scandal after he had no choice but to leave after what he did to try to get a head of an election by spying on the Democratic party.
